Mothers Union

Joyce Bache

The Aim of the Mothers’ Union is the advancement of the Christian faith in the sphere of marriage and family life. A worldwide society within the Church, its objectives are:

To uphold Christ’s teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding.

To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and
life of the church.

To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer,
worship and service.

To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life
and the protection of children.

To help those whose family life has met with adversity.

The Purpose of the Mothers’ Union is to be especially concerned
with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian family life.

Membership is open to all who have been baptised in the name of
the Holy Trinity.

Our branch in Poitou Charentes is led by Joyce Bache. We have 25
subscribing members, plus 2 who are summer visitors.

Due to the large geographical area of our chaplaincy we cannot
meet regularly, but we continually support each other in prayer.

We arrange events  throughout the year which we publicise and make accessible to all. Examples are: Treasure Hunts, Quiet Days, Summer Strawberry Teas or BBQs and a Winter lunch.  We have a stall at the chaplaincy summer fete and Christmas Bazaar.

This year’s strawberry tea raised in excess of 500€ which we have sent to the MU Wheels Appeal. This fund provides vehicles and maintenance for our workers, mostly in Africa, where roads and transport cause a huge problem in getting help to those who need it.

We have an Annual General Meeting with Holy Communion.

Mother’s Union will again be organising a Hymnathon this year to raise funds for our “Away fom it all” holiday scheme – sending a recommended family from the Chaplaincy area on a much needed holiday.

Forms for hymn requests are available from Mother’s Union members at 2 euros per choice of hymn. The top ten requests for each venue will be sung at the services.  The services will be held on April 29th at 10.30 a.m. at Cognac, Ambernac and Magne. If you require any more information please contact Joyce.
